Your unique Barton username remains the same throughout your time here and is automatically generated for you. It's structured as follows: the year you joined (e.g., 25), your initials (e.g., BW), followed by the final four digits of your college admission number (e.g., 2959).
You'll need to remember your username, it lets you log into all Barton systems.
Students at Barton have access to three computer types: Chromebooks/Chrome PCs, Windows PCs, and Apple Macs. Shared Chrome OS and Windows PCs are in Open Access Areas for all students. There are over 100 computers available for use in the Library.
Chromebook trolleys are available in subject lessons. Music Tech students have access to Apple Macs in specific classrooms and the Library.
Barton encourages students to bring their own laptops for note-taking in lessons, which works well with Google Drive, allowing you to search your notes, keep them organised and ready whenever you need them.
Each classroom has a phone holder at the front for mobile phones, though some subjects may allow phone use for specific tasks.
Barton Peveril College provides comprehensive WiFi access for all students and staff. You can connect your personal devices throughout all college buildings, as well as in the outdoor Quad areas, and extending to the edge of the field near the Nobel building.
Our system allows you to register and use the WiFi on up to 8 different devices linked to your account.

Google Classroom provides you with a central location to find all your assignments and resources for each of your subjects.
What are Classes?
Subjects you enrolled in; teachers add resources, provide updates and set assignments.
How do I know what work I need to do?
Assigned work appears in your Upcoming list (top left). You can also find your assignments under the Classwork tab.
I can’t see any classes or the class codes are invalid
The codes won’t work if you’re logged in to a personal Google account, you need to be logged in to Classroom using your Barton account.
To add your Barton account, click the profile icon in the top right corner of Classroom then click ‘Add Account’.
Look at the Classroom List to join other Welcome Day classes.
Google Drive is your cloud file storage area whilst at Barton Peveril.
I have a lot of old documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, can I store them in Drive?
Yes. Store them or convert them to Docs, Sheets, or Slides by enabling Convert Uploads in Drive's settings (cog icon, top right, "Convert uploads").
Can I add other non-Google documents and files?
Yes, Google Drive can store any type of file. If you upload any Office documents such as Word or Excel docs, you can edit them right in Google Drive itself.
Can I share a document with someone?
Yes. Share files by right-clicking, selecting "Share," entering the person's name or email, and clicking "Share."
Docs is a word processor, Sheets is a spreadsheet application and Slides is a slideshow application.
They’re Google’s equivalents to Word, Excel & Powerpoint.
How can I create a new Doc, Sheet or Slide?
To create a new file, either click the "New" button in the top left of Google Drive, or use the shortcut: docs.new, sheets.new, or slides.new in the browser.
Is it hard to use Docs, Sheets or Slides?
These applications are user-friendly. If you're used to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, the transition is seamless.
